This series of recordings and re-recordings have been put together in 3 videos that show a visualisation of the sounds. The videos carry the wavelengths, peak frequency spectrograms and spectrograms of the recorded sounds, so as to be able to locate where the sound loses legibility and coherence, if it does.

Much like Lucier’s own and others’ subsequent projects that derive inspiration from his, this series of recordings also reach a moment wherein the original sound is completely obscured and taken over by the “distortions” and layers of ambient sounds that enter during the re-recording process, and the graphs of spectrograms and wavelengths help in seeing the changes in the sound. For instance, in the exercise around the sound of the fan, one can see (and hear, of course) the difference between the first recording and its re-recording.
this coming-in-of-distortions, this change in the sounds does not still tell us if the final sound can be called “incoherent”, because what does sound mean?
